CivAccount collects minimal data

Data controller

CivAccount is operated by Owen Fisher as an independent open source project. For data protection enquiries, please contact us via GitHub.

What we collect

CivAccount stores your selected council preference in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device and is only used to remember your council selection between visits.

We do not use cookies for tracking. We do not collect personal information. We do not require you to create an account.

Legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, we process the minimal data described above based on our legitimate interest in providing a functional service. Local storage preferences are necessary for the service to remember your council selection.

Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how people use CivAccount. This helps us improve the service. Any analytics data is aggregated and anonymous, and does not identify individual users.

Third-party services and international transfers

CivAccount is hosted on Vercel. When you visit, Vercel may collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited). Vercel's servers are located globally, which may involve transfer of data outside the UK. See Vercel's privacy policy for details on their data handling and safeguards.

Data retention

Your council preference in local storage persists until you clear your browser data. Server logs retained by Vercel follow their standard retention policies. We do not maintain any database of user information.

Data sources

All council data displayed on CivAccount comes from publicly available UK government sources. We do not collect or store any data about individual council tax payers.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, or port your personal data. You can clear your browser's local storage at any time to remove your council preference. Since we don't collect personal data beyond this, there's nothing else to delete.

If you believe your data protection rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
